Our most current community project is the renovation of Highlands Park. Highlands Park is a diamond in the rough that has fallen victim to neglect. Club members have been involved in hands-on work projects restoring the park to an inviting neighborhood park. Included in this project is the replacement of outdated playground equipment that was in disrepair, rebuilding the fence and dugout and upgrading the little league field.
Planned, designed, funded, and constructed the Evergreen Lodge, an eight-unit housing facility for the use of St. Joseph Hospital cancer and serious medical condition patients that live out of the Eureka area. Alleviating the additional stress of travel during difficult times of treatment, patients and family can stay at the Evergreen Lodge. Currently, our club is in the process of planning the expansion of the Lodge. This $250,000 project will result in the addition of six housing units.
Organized and presented Murder at the Elks, this annual themed event has been a sold-out affair with the funds raised benefiting the local community projects including the Humboldt County Library and projects aiding the elderly .
Organized and presented Casino Royale, an annual fundraiser that has become our largest. Casino Royale proceeds funds a variety of community projects including the Alzheimer's Center, Evergreen Lodge and Project Share Live.
Participated with other local Rotary to purchase and distribute dictionaries to all 3rd grade students in four Eureka schools.
Bowl for Kids Sake, a team from our club bowls in this annual event that contributes funds to Big Brothers/Big Sisters.
Developed the Veterans Day Program to honor our local veterans and their families.
Tour of Trinidad bicycle tour. This annual event benefits Project Share Life.
Developed Project Share Life, a bone marrow donor program designed to increase the numbers of potential donors on the National Marrow Donor Registry. The Rotary clubs in our District have raised and contributed over $100,000 to this project.
International Projects
In Mexico we organized the first Festival of Brotherhood, meeting with Rotarians from Mexico to initiate and complete a variety of humanitarian projects in and around Guadalajara. Our most current projects in Mexico include; The Kamami Project for abused girls and the Happy Smile, a project for cleft palates. We have partnered with other local Rotary Clubs, pooling our funds resources.
We are the primary partner, along with four Rotary Clubs in the Uganda Adopt-a -village project in Africa. This includes the drilling of a borehole well, protected Springs, treated mosquito nets, energy-Saving (and clean-burning) stoves, heifers, pigs and goats. Also included are chicken and fish farming, along with kitchen gardens and the training and consultation of medical supplies.
Provided funding for potable water and waste disposal system in Pucallpa, Peru.
Participated in a student exchange program with students from Eureka High School and hosting students from other countries.
